Ocular Infection

The conjunctivitis ocular infection is a type of eye infection which results in the inflammation of the eye's outermost layer as well as the inner surface of the eyelids.



The affliction causes a reddening of the eyes which is the main cause of why it is known as “pink eye.”

There are several causes of conjunctivitis or “pink eye.” One of the most common is through bacterial infection. Bacterial conjunctivitis is mostly caused by such pyogenic bacteria as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus bacteria.



The infection often results in the overabundance of the bacteria in the person's microorganism flora in the skin or even in the person's respiratory flora. Conjunctivitis can also be caused by external or environmental factors such as insect borne bacteria. It can also come from contact with other persons through touch. Sharing of eye makeup or facial lotions can also be a cause for conjunctivitis.

There are a few easily detectable pink eye symptoms which help in diagnosing the problem. Those who suffer from conjunctivitis ocular infection often experience teary eyes, redness and irritation in the skin and, depending on the infection, itchiness of the eyes. The puss producing bacteria usually involved in bacterial conjunctivitis often causes grittiness and irritation in the eye along with a mucopurulent discharge which can be yellowish or gray in color and is stringy and opaque. Some bacterial conjunctivitis, infections, however does not cause any remarkable effect save for an itch around the eyes such as those by the bacteria chlamydia.

Due to the proximity of bacterial conjunctivitis to the sensitive tissues of the eye, it is best to have the condition checked by a medical specialist in order for the proper therapy to be applied. Depending on the probable cause of the infection, there are several remedies that can be used to alleviate the problem of bacterial conjunctivitis.

Commonly, bacterial conjunctivitis is cured using antibiotic eye drops applied to the infected eye. Antibiotic ointments can also be applied to the infected skin around the eyes to cure the condition. Both these treatments are made to handle a broad range of bacteria. It is worthwhile to note that some treatments may take several days to show a small effect. In certain countries such as in India, alternative medication is also used to handle bacterial conjunctivitis. One example is the use of pure goat’s milk for the cure. Another is using coconut water with a selection of herbs as an ointment for bacterial conjunctivitis.
